Position Description

The Office Manager is responsible for streamlining administrative procedures and processes. This position is to be the principal provider of administrative support to the Assistant Dean of Human Resources and Staff Engagement. He/she will be responsible for managing the Assistant Dean’s calendar, meetings, and drafting internal and external correspondence. The candidate must be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of administrative duties, including but not limited to ordering supplies, paying invoices, answering and screening calls, greeting visitors, and serving as the first point for contact for the Adams School of Dentistry’s Human Resources office. The Office Manager must be an energetic professional who is experienced in handling a wide range of administrative and executive support related tasks and able to work independently with little or no supervision. This position will support the Human Resources office and will serve as the main point of contact for the office’s visitors.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate’s degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

• Strong planning and organizational skills
• Strong computer application skills in Outlook, Excel, Word and Powerpoint
• Must present a professional demeanor and possess excellent communication skills, including proper grammar both spoken and written
• Must be highly organized, demonstrate attention to detail and be self-motivated
• Ability to anticipate and resolve issues
• Strong writing and editing skills are essential

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience utilizing Office 365 is highly desired
• Previous work experience in an Office Management or Administrative role supporting a high-traffic, high-volume office

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers. Carolina is about 30 miles from the state capital, Raleigh, and 20 minutes from Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Carolina Computing Initiative: Beginning with the freshman class of 2000, undergraduates must purchase laptop computers. The University has arranged for IBM to offer computers at excellent prices.
