We have an outstanding opportunity for a Physician Assistant or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner to partner with staff in our MS Center, to be appointed to the academic title of Teaching Associate in the Department of Neurology. This is a full-time, 12-month position, available November 1, 2019. We are looking for a motivated individual, eager to learn, to provide patient care and education, continuity of care, medication checks and provider on call for infusion.

Position is full time, days, Monday - Friday.

The ARNP or PA is responsible for Responsible for providing primary or specialty patient care independently or collaboratively with physicians with appropriate privileges, including ongoing assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients’ medical, physical and psychosocial status. A critical aspect of the position will be working with other key individuals in the multi-disciplinary team in the development and execution of the model of care.


Management of Patient Health/Illness Status

  • Provides health promotion and disease prevention services to patients who are healthy or have acute and chronic conditions, based on age, developmental stage, family history and ethnicity.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform and document physical/psychological exams, obtain health history and identify health risk factors of appropriate patient population.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests.
  • Analyzes and interprets history, including presenting symptoms, physical findings, and diagnostic information to develop appropriate differential diagnoses.
  • Demonstrates ability to prescribe medications (see appropriate state laws) and non-pharmacologic therapies based upon the patient’s diagnosis, health history and age.
  • Prioritizes health problems and intervenes appropriately including initiation of effective emergency care.
  • Formulates an action plan based on scientific rationale, evidence-based standards of care and practice guidelines.
  • Provides follow-up care, determines effectiveness of treatment plan, reassesses and changes the plan as needed.

The Practitioner-Patient Relationship

  • Creates a climate of mutual trust and establishes partnerships with patients. Works with patient and families to formulate a treatment and education plan.
  • Preserves the patient’s control over decision making, assesses the patient’s commitment to the jointly determined, mutually acceptable plan of care, and fosters patient’s personal responsibility for health.
  • Evaluates the impact of life transitions on the health/illness status of patients and the impact of health and illness on patients, families, and communities).
  • Teaches and encourages positive health behaviors for the maintenance of health and the prevention of disease.
  • Managing and Negotiating Health Care Delivery System.
  • Provides patient and/or family with health education, counseling and referrals to other healthcare professionals and community resources as appropriate.
  • Participates as a key member of an interdisciplinary team through the development of collaborative and innovative practices recognizing each one’s expertise to meet the comprehensive needs of patients.
  • Monitoring and Ensuring the Quality of Health Care Practice.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and promotes continuous Quality Improvement.
  • Assumes accountability for practice and strives to attain the highest standards of practice.
  • Engages in self-evaluation concerning practice and uses evaluation information, including peer review, to improve care and practice.

Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the advanced practice role.


Qualifications:

Requires:

  1. Current, valid and unencumbered Washington State Registered Nurse and Advanced Registered Nurse Licensure with prescriptive authority or PA licensure.
  2. Master’s Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or Physician Assistant Program.
  3. Certification by a national board certifying organization.
  4. Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment.
  5. Effective interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and clinical expertise in patient care.
  6. Clinical expertise in pain management and related disorders and other neuroscience disorders preferred but not required.
  7. Proven development and collaboration/networking skills working with different disciplines, families, and community members.

Certifications: L-RN | REGISTERED NURSE LICENSE - WA State
