The Academic Advisor provides educational information about college academic programs and services for prospective and currently enrolled students; orients new students toward an informed and successful start to their college experience; assists students in assessing their interest and abilities by examining their educational goals, making decisions and developing short and long-term educational plans to meet their planned objectives; interprets and reviews college placement examinations, Advanced Placement (AP), ACT/SAT scores, IB and CLEP (College Level Examination Placement) to ensure proper course selection; provides accurate and timely information related to Career Programs and Transfer courses; demonstrates knowledge about educational, institutional, corporate and community resources, as well as other college-wide programs and services. Presenting on Academic Advising services to groups of students, parents, or staff will be expected.Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree and related experience, training, and knowledge in individual and group advising process related to college students academic and personal development.Qualifications
This position requires a strong commitment to student centered learning that focuses on the development and success of the learner; candidates should possess knowledge of academic advising theories and practices that support teaching, learning, and human development; prior experience working with a variety of students that includes various levels of academic preparedness, multicultural and linguistic diversity, and economic status; individuals with fluency in more than one language are encouraged to apply.Position StatusPart TimeHours
