Position Summary

The Director of Diversity and Intercultural Life is the leading diversity resource officer serving the student population in strong collaboration with campus partners.  The position is responsible for leading student initiatives that encourage the integration and inclusion of differences valued by the university.  The director will work cross-departmentally with campus constituencies to enhance the campus climate for students and to implement data-driven programs and initiatives to help the campus meet benchmarks focused on diversity, equity, and reducing student achievement gaps.

The Director reports to the Vice President for Student Engagement and supervises the professional staff of the Office of Diversity.

The Director is a creative leader committed to advancing equity in higher education through the following:  academic coaching of student college readiness cohorts, facilitation of intercultural education for undergraduate students, creation of hospitable environments in the Office of Diversity, oversight and across campus to strengthen students’ sense of belonging, and strategic multicultural programming for the campus.  The director is responsible for the supervision of professional staff and student staff, proactive and responsible budget management, and potential procurement of federal and state grants for student retention initiatives.

Office of Diversity and Intercultural Life

  • In collaboration with the Director of CRUX and Director of Catalyst, oversee the operational function of the shared space located in Sohlberg Hall.
  • Oversee and support the Program Coordinator in efforts to advance student cultural clubs, collaborative participation in college readiness cohort programming, curriculum planning, class registration and the development of university cross-departmental partnerships.
  • Assess, track, and advance student learning among NPU intercultural student population through academic and social integration efforts.
  • Facilitate diversity and intercultural life education efforts through academic partnerships with the University Dean and other key partners on campus.
  • Enhance the co-curricular cultural experience for students on campus through structured programming.
  • Participate in student leadership training.
  • Partner in support of student Cohorts such as COMPASS, Lighthouse, One Goal and Pritzker scholarship programs.
  • Provide oversight of cultural clubs and advisors.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Enrollment to establish clear pathways for matriculation to North Park.
  • Mentor students and be a model of mentorship for others.

Qualifications

  • Committed to and an articulate supporter of the university’s mission, identity, and Christian faith commitment.
  • Desire to and proven ability to meet, relate to and work with a diverse student population
  • Master’s degree required
  • 5+ years of administrative experience in higher education is highly preferred
  • Sensitivity to, and support for, multicultural issues and populations and diversity education. 
  • A developmental understanding of college students and a desire to facilitate and encourage their development in a supportive and service-oriented environment.
  • The ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, administrators, faculty and staff members, and outside constituencies.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with proven leadership skills and managerial abilities.
  • The ability to effectively coordinate many overlapping tasks and consistently meet deadlines.
  • The ability to adhere to and be accountable for following the University’s established policies and procedures.
