Job Description Summary

The Center for Weight and Eating Disorders at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine is hiring a full-time Research Coordinator to manage studies focused on the neurobiology of obesity under the direction of Dr. Ariana Chao. The Coordinator will be specifically responsible for a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) study that will examine neural changes associated with behavioral obesity treatment. The Coordinator will conduct semi-structured clinical interviews, assist with neuroimaging procedures, and administer self-report and neurocognitive assessments. Additional responsibilities will include patient recruitment and scheduling, patient screening, preparing study materials, completing progress and data safety monitoring plan and reports, maintaining study charts, data management and analysis, preparation and maintenance of regulatory (IRB) paperwork, and grant and presentation/publication preparation as necessary.

The position is ideal for individuals who are interested in growing and developing a research coordinator career within the lab or for motivated college graduates who are interested in pursuing graduate studies in psychology or medical school. Candidates must be willing to commit at least 1.5 years to the position and be able to work flexible hours.

Job Description

Responsibilities

Subject Recruitment, Consent & Interviews

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the study protocol and contributes to the planning and implementation of the research study
  • Acts as liaison with internal and external constituents to ensure effective communication and coordination of activities
  • In collaboration with Private Investigator, facilitate the care and management of persons with dementia and in geriatric medicine and will work in collaboration with the study team in conducting the initial in-home eligibility visits and assessing the initial dementia care needs assessments
  • Delivers healthcare education following clearly defined protocol
  • Assist with recruitment, eligibility screening, and informed consent of potential subjects into the research study
  • Conducts interviews with subjects in-home
  • Assists with the system designs to track subjects, maintain contact with subjects, and arrange for follow-up appointments
  • Collaborates with Principal Investigator and other study team members to ensure project success

Subject Follow-up and Outcome Assessments

  • Completes necessary documentation within required time frame, including observations of home environment and response to intervention
  • Coordinates and conducts follow-up and outcomes assessments in the subjects’ homes, study offices, or a mutually agreeable location according to study protocol

Quality Management and Compliance with Study Protocols; Data management

  • Ensure compliance with human subject’s standards and research protocols, maintains strict confidentiality
  • Promptly reports any areas of concern to project coordinator or principal investigator according to study protocol
  • Assures confidentiality of study data
  • Ensures quality control measures in keeping with study protocols
  • Ensures timely data entry and monitors quality of data entry and management
  • Participates in data analysis

Participates in Reporting & Dissemination Activities

  • Assists with preparation of reports, institutional review board and funding agency including adverse event reporting
  • Participates in drafting and editing presentation abstracts and manuscripts
  • May also assist in manuscript development, community presentations, training intervention development, program support and administration activities

Perform additional duties as assigned


Qualifications

Individuals applying should have the following qualifications: (1) a B.A. or B.S. in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field with at least 1 year of experience conducting human subjects research, clinical trial/clinical research experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience are required; (2) strong interpersonal skills and comfort interacting with patients; (3) exceptional attention to detail, excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills; (4) effective independent problem-solving skills and task prioritization. Strong computer skills, including experience with statistical packages and programming/scripting, are highly desirable.

Position is contingent upon continued funding.
