The NYU School of Professional Studies is looking for an educator and thought leader who aspires to shape the next generation of PR and Corporate Communications professionals. We need a PR or Communications academic, experienced in applying research and insights to professional practice and building education programs for the training of emerging professionals in the field.   NYU SPS seeks an individual who either combines scholarship with direct work experience in companies and/or institutions where they have helped to solve business and communications challenges, or a reflective practitioner with extensive experience in PR and/or Corporate Communications, who has an advanced educational background.

The Division of Programs in Business, within NYU’s School of Professional Studies offers six Master’s programs, along with a number of certificate programs and non-credit courses. These programs combine leading-edge theory with real-world experience to meet the educational needs of aspiring professionals and prepare them for the demands of the workplace. The Department of Integrated Marketing and Communications, brings together over 1200 students in two masters programs, which includes the M.S. in PR and Corporate Communication, as well as a number of non-credit programs, which are offered onsite and online.

NYU’s M.S. in PR and Corporate Communication prepares students to apply theoretical knowledge and effective methodologies, along with professional writing, critical thinking and research skills that are required to become leaders in their field.  Our graduates leave equipped to design and implement communication programs that positively contribute to building a brand’s reputation, creating thought leadership, and developing an informed and engaged public. The program provides a strong curricular foundation designed to help students anticipate and address the needs of the dynamic and evolving profession of PR and Corporate Communications, and gain perspective on the role of PR as part of an integrated approach to marketing and communications to drive business impact.  Students can choose to specialize in one of two concentrations— Public Relations Management, or Corporate and Organizational Communication.

Job Description
This full-time faculty position will begin ideally, in the Spring of 2020. The position is a nine-month, non-tenured, one-year renewable faculty appointment. The rank of the position will be clinical assistant or clinical associate professor dependent on experience and qualifications. A successful candidate in the program will work closely with the Academic Director to develop and deliver impactful and engaging course work and co-curricular programs; to advance thought leadership through applied industry research; to build industry relationships and partnerships; to support in the growth and development of our adjunct faculty base; and to contribute collaboratively to the advancement of NYU, the school, and the division’s mission and strategy. Along with direct teaching responsibilities, candidates will be expected to act as an advocate for the program, assisting at orientation and information events, serving on committees, advising students, and building relationships and programs within NYU SPS and with other NYU schools.

Basic Qualifications
A PhD, or equivalent degree, in Public Relations, Communications, Media Studies, Journalism or a related discipline is preferred, with a minimum degree of MBA, M.S. or other related Master’s program, plus 8-10 years working experience. The ideal candidate will be able to lead in the creation of intellectual capital around topic areas directly relevant to practitioners of PR and Corporate Communications, which they would be expected to apply through classroom teaching, publication in business or academic journals, industry conferences, consulting and/or corporate partnerships etc.

Experience and research in the areas of Social Media, Professional Writing, Media Relations, Crisis Communications, Data Storytelling, Measurement and Analytics, Ethics and Social Responsibility would be very desirable, as would experience in curriculum, course, and program development.
