Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Liberal Studies, the BHHS Field Placement Specialist (Instructional Aide A) establishes and maintains quality behavioral health/human service field placements for students within the College's BHHS program. This position develops and implements an effective and efficient system for quality placement, and serves as the liaison among the students, faculty and human service agencies, schools and other related programs in the community. This is a part-time position with scheduled work hours not to exceed 24 hours per week.


Specific Responsibilities

• Coordinate the student placement process including; identification, selection and ongoing maintenance of new and established field placement sites.

• Conduct on-site visits of new field placement sites, as needed or required.

• Match and assign students with field placements appropriate to the student's learning needs.

• Maintain active communication and cooperation with field placement sites on selection of qualified field supervisors.

• Provide up to date field placement assignment lists to practice faculty prior to the start of each semester.

• Serve as initial contact between the program and the field placement site.

• Communicate program expectations to the field placement site director; assist in the planning and implementation of the practicum and provide information regarding the BHHS curriculum as it relates to student's practicum.

• Attend BHHS faculty meetings, as directed, to exchange information on students' learning needs in the field.

• Assist in planning and organizing biannual informational meeting for the field placement site supervisors to ensure integration of the field practicum experience with the BHHS curriculum.

• In collaboration with the Assistant Dean and BHHS faculty, and within curriculum guidelines, develop new placements and evaluate existing facilities using a criteria selection form developed by the program.

• Provide orientation sessions each semester prior to field placement as well as individual orientation to students as needed.

• Submit bi-weekly reports to document activities and outcomes.

• Demonstrate a sense of connection and responsibility for helping the College to achieve success through a commitment to its mission, vision, and values.

• Actively participate in the academic life of the College.

• Communicate effectively, share vision, focus on people, initiate positive change, value differences and foster collaboration. Work with and inspire others to achieve college, department, and individual success. Proactively identify/address problems.

• Demonstrate an understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the College's faculty, staff and students.Minimum Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Human Services or a related field with a minimum of two (2) years' relevant work experience required; or a Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field with a minimum of one (1) year of relevant work experience required. Any and all degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

• Excellent organizational skills.

• Ability to demonstrate initiative and work well independently.

• Ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.

• An understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college staff and students.


Preferred Qualifications

• Previous work experience in an Educational or Human Services setting.
