General Internal Medicine Hospitalist and Consultative Medicine Open Positions

The open positions are 12-month, annual appointments and will be at the Instructor level (Clinical Instructor or Acting Instructor) or Assistant Professor level (Clinical Assistant Professor or Acting Assistant Professor). Anticipated start date July 1, 2020.

The Hospital Medicine Program, part of the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) and the Department of Medicine, is currently accepting online applications. GIM will review candidate applications for positions on the Hospital Medicine Service and Medicine Consult Service. Candidates may be considered at individual or multiple sections of GIM—Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington Medical Center (Montlake and Northwest Campuses), and VA Puget Sound Health Care System. Applicants only seeking employment at the Northwest Campus will be asked to apply through a separate job posting, where the positions will be exclusively for full-time clinical faculty.

Harborview Medical Center (HMC)

The Hospital Medicine Program at HMC offers daytime and/or night-time positions for full or part-time academic internists. Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to providing high value care to the patients of HMC in the spirit of service to our community’s most vulnerable populations with a special dedication to improving health systems, medical education and scholarship.

Daytime hospitalists will have the opportunity to work on a variety of clinical services ranging from primary medicine services, consultative medicine and perioperative medicine services, with opportunities to interact with students and residents from a variety of departments.

Night-time hospitalists will work with a team of residents and students to provide nighttime coverage for the hospitalist teams and ensure critical attending coverage during the evening.

University of Washington Medical Center Montlake Campus (UWMC)

The Hospital Medicine Program at UWMC consists of the Hospital Medicine Service and Medicine Consult Service. These services offer daytime and/or nighttime positions for full or part-time academic internists. Successful applicants will demonstrate excellence in clinical care and a commitment to academic medicine with an interest in teaching, quality improvement work or research.

Duties on the Medicine Consult Service include patient care, perioperative medical consultation and teaching in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Duties on the Hospital Medicine Service include patient care and teaching on the general medicine wards. Some applicants may choose a blend of consultative and hospital medicine duties.

University of Washington Medical Center Northwest Hospital Campus (NWH)

The Hospital Medicine Program at NWH offers daytime and/or nighttime positions for full or part-time internists seeking to practice at a community hospital within an academic system. Successful applicants will demonstrate a dedication to excellent care of the patients requiring medical and surgical care at NWH.

VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS)

The Hospital Medicine Program at VAPSHCS offers daytime and/or nighttime positions for full or part-time academic internists. Successful applicants will demonstrate a dedication to excellent care of the Veteran population and a commitment to academic medicine with an interest in teaching, quality improvement work and/or research.

Daytime hospitalists will work as a hospitalist on the Purple team (primarily direct patient care, also inpatient medicine consults and triage/transfer of Veterans from outside hospitals), in addition to medicine attending on the resident teaching services.

Nocturnists will work on the Night Medicine Service which provides night coverage for the Hospital Medicine Service, including the Medical Intensive Care Unit. The Night Medicine team includes two attending physicians, plus an internal medicine senior resident and intern allowing for regular teaching opportunities.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have an MD degree (or foreign equivalent) and board certification* in Internal Medicine (or foreign equivalent).

*Note: Board certification in Internal Medicine must be completed within two years after residency.

Application Instructions:

Applications will be accepted starting August 19th. To facilitate timely scheduling of interviews, we encourage submitting your application by October 31st or as soon as possible. Applications after October 31st are welcome and interviews will be scheduled as promptly as possible during November through January, depending on available open positions*. The recruitment committee will review applications in the order received.

*Note regarding timeline of job offers: In past years GIM have typically extended job offers in January and February, although may continue recruitment beyond then. The number of job openings and timing of offers depends in part on whether existing faculty change clinical commitments and the decisions of other candidates.
