The Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Washington (UW), School of Medicine, is seeking a highly motivated faculty medical physicist for the UW and its affiliate institution radiation therapy programs. The department offers patients advanced radiation treatment modalities including proton, neutron, photon and electron modalities, stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy, brachytherapy and intraoperative therapy.

Appointment will be to a full time position at an academic rank of Assistant Professor without tenure due to funding with an anticipated start date of 7/1/20 depending upon the successful candidate’s clinical experience, research productivity and program administrative responsibilities. This is a full-time position with a twelve month appointment with salary paid over twelve months for eleven months of service.

Medical physics faculty support the clinical, research, and teaching missions of the department. Clinical service includes all aspects of advanced radiation therapy physics and development of new imaging and treatment protocols in collaboration with other faculty. A key current need is the development and expansion of the image-guided brachytherapy program. In the research realm, current interests include informatics and optimization, advanced molecular imaging techniques, proton therapy and quality assurance. The department has also developed a unique translational research facility for proton and photon IGRT in support of radiobiological studies and modeling. Each faculty member is expected to publish scholarly work and to seek external grant support of an independent research program. In the educational realm, it is expected that the faculty member will supervise students and post-doctoral researchers and participate in the department’s ACGME-accredited and CAMPEP-accredited residency training programs.

The Department of Radiation Oncology treats over 2,800 patients yearly from a multi-state region covering over 25% of the U.S. geographic area. Our clinical approach is collaborative with numerous multidisciplinary clinics and tumor boards. We enjoy strong collaborations with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and several imaging research laboratories. The Department has 24 physicians, 8 advanced practice providers, 22 medical physics and 2 research faculty, who engage in active multi-disciplinary clinical and basic research. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in radiation oncology or a related field (or foreign equivalent) and board certification in radiation oncology or eligibility for this certification.

Candidates who have experience with proton, neutron, photon and electron modalities, stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy, brachytherapy and intraoperative therapy are preferred. A strong interest and commitment in research and education is expected, as well as strong collaboration with the multidisciplinary teams.
