The University of Washington School of Dentistry, Department of Orthodontics is committed to building a diverse, equitable and inclusive learning environment. We welcome applicants to apply for an Acting Assistant Professor appointment. This is a 12-month active service period half-time position. The title of Acting Assistant Professor is an annual appointment (non-tenure eligible); the continuation of the appointment is reviewed each year, and is limited to 4 years in any one acting title (with the possibility to transition to a regular professorial track in the future).

UW faculty are engaged in teaching, scholarly activity, and service. Responsibilities for this position will include clinical and didactic teaching at the predoctoral and postdoctoral level. Depending on candidate qualifications and interests, other opportunities include giving CE courses, and conducting clinical or basic research. Salary will commensurate with the qualifications of the selected applicant. We are particularly interested in applicants with a diverse background and range of experiences.

The Orthodontic predoctoral program consists of didactic courses in the 1st and 2nd year, a clerkship in the third year, and an optional elective in the 3rd or 4th year. The graduate program is a 33-month program that enrolls 5 graduate student each year. The graduate curriculum transitions from mostly didactic courses during the first quarter, to a mix of didactic courses, research, and patient care for the remaining 30 months.

Qualifications:
  • A DDS/DMD degree or foreign equivalent
  • Completion of a CODA-accredited advanced education program in orthodontics or foreign equivalent
  • Eligible for regular or faculty dental license from the state of Washington (see https://tinyurl.com/y6f9dsx2)
  • Eligibility for or completion of certification as a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics is desirable
