Job Description:


The Maintainers we seek will be responsible for performing janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, grounds-keeping and other maintenance tasks as assigned on Roxbury Community College Campus, within the Students Center, the Academic Building, the Administration Building, or the Media Arts Building.

Essential Functions:


  • Cleans property such as offices, Classrooms, meeting rooms, bathrooms, bathrooms, corridors, walls, etc., by washing, waxing, buffing, sweeping, polishing, dusting, or vacuum cleaning, and also empties and cleans waste barrels, garbage cans, and other waste receptacles.
  • Performs manual labor such as loading or unloading freight materials or equipment, delivering goods to personnel.
  • Locks or unlocks premises, reports hazardous and unusual situations to appropriate authorities.
  • Makes general repairs of a simple nature.
  • Operates electric trimmers, buffers, or other similar mechanical or power-driven equipment.
  • Performs routine manual tasks involved in the maintenance, repair or beautification process of grounds, such as cutting grass, cleaning drains, loading and unloading vehicles, moving and setting up furniture and equipment, snow removal and sand/melt spreading, cleaning or marking walkways, roads and parking lots, painting fences, posts, building exteriors.
  • Performs routine laboring tasks to assist skilled trade people engaged in maintenance, repair, or construction work using hand and electrical tools appropriate to the craft, such as assisting with the dismantling, fabrication, alteration, and construction of building structures and systems.
  • Plants, seeds, transplants, removes, prunes, trims, waters, sprays or fertilizes trees, shrubbery, grass, plants or flowers; participates in the growth and care of flowers.
  • Sweeps sidewalks, rakes, and collects leaves, collects and hauls debris or rubbish, shovels snow, sands roadways and walkways, performs other manual tasks involved with snow removal, control and disposal.
  • Other related duties as assigned.


Requirements:


  • All Candidates must have legal authorization to work in the US.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to understand and apply the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards & guidelines governing assigned activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working & public relations.
  • Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Ability to climb and work on ladders and scaffolds.
  • Manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude.

This is an AFSCME position with full benefits.

Anticipated schedule: Tuesday through Saturday, 7;00 AM-3:00 PM Shift Hours.


Compensation: The salary is determined according to the guidelines and salary structure of the AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement. Based on Grade 9-Step 1, the annual rate is $32,644.56.
