Description:

The Part-Time Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading and organizing group and individual exercise programs to help Wellness & Recreation Center members improve their health and fitness. These programs may include many forms of fitness activities such as, step aerobics, cardio kickboxing, yoga, pilates, cycling, Zumba, and many more. Group Fitness Instructors are also responsible for aiding in the promotion of group fitness classes to increase participation across the campus community. Group Fitness Instructors will occasionally be required to participate in special events to promote the Wellness & Recreation Center and its programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide a safe and fun environment for all participants
  • Promote knowledge of proper group fitness components, i.e.: warm-up, aerobic exercise, flexibility, cool down, etc
  • Knowledgeable in techniques and dynamics of Group Fitness
  • Arrive early to each class to prep, set-up, and greet participants
  • Record attendance numbers for every class
  • Communicate with supervisor when unsafe conditions occur; report equipment in need of repair
  • Provide quality customer service to all participants
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of Group Fitness equipment and room
  • Ensure compliance with Wellness & Recreation Center policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School or GED
  • Certification from a nationally recognized organization for one or more of the following sessions: Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, Cardio Kickboxing, Cycling, Step Aerobics, Boot Camp, Sports Conditioning, Group Strength, CrossFit
  • Current American Red Cross First Aid & CPR Certifications or ability to obtain certifications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • One or more of the below certifications
    • ACE (American Council on Exercise)
    • ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine)
    • AFAA (Athletics and Fitness Association of America)
    • ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association)
    • NETA (National Exercise Trainers Association)
  • Yoga Instructor Certification

Position may require local travel. Ability to lift and carry files and materials. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus.
