Nature of Work:

The University of Colorado School of Medicine (UCSOM), Department of Pediatrics, Section of Infectious Disease seeks an MD/DO board certified/eligible in Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Pediatrics at Instructor or Assistant Professor rank to complement the activities of our Infectious Diseases Section in Colorado Springs. This position will be primarily based at the Colorado Springs facility but will have the option to serve for a limited number of weeks as Infectious Diseases Attending at the Children's Hospital Colorado facility on the Anschutz Medical Campus and will work in close collaboration with the section generally. The role will provide infectious diseases consultation and follow up care to inpatients and outpatients for a wide range of conditions which may include patients living with HIV, participate in the teaching mission of the ID section and optionally also work as a pediatric hospitalist.  The role will participate in hospital epidemiology and infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship.


Job Duties:

•Infectious diseases consultation for inpatients, outpatients, and telemedicine in the Southern region providing independent care for patients on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Includes shared holiday, weekend and night call responsibilities.
•Option for infectious diseases consultation for inpatients and outpatients at the Children's Hospital Colorado at the Anschutz Medical Campus.
•Communicate with community providers regarding general questions as well as providing expert clinical provider-to-provide professional advice regarding specific patients. 
•Supervise and educate various levels of learners and advanced practice providers
•Coordinate multi-disciplinary care with other hospital and outpatient services
•When appropriate teach in the fellowship and residency programs. This includes bedside and some didactic teaching. 
•The MD may also be expected to contribute lectures for the healthcare-related schools at the University of Colorado and participate in other continuing medical education offered by Infectious Diseases
•Participate in the development of the Infection Prevention and Control programs.  
•Coverage as needed for physician support for occupational health team based at hospital. Includes blood borne pathogen assessment, contagious disease exposures to staff, influenza and other vaccination programs. 
•Participate in administration, function, and implementation of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program in collaboration with the Pharmacy. Collaborates with units in relevant projects such as Vermont Oxford antimicrobial use in neonatal ICU.
•Assists in microbial surveillance for hospital-associated infections including data collection, statistical analysis, and development of appropriate interventions in dealing with clusters of disease. Coordinates DNA "fingerprinting" studies of significant isolates suspected in involvement of clusters of HAIs. 
•Option to provide clinical care as a pediatric hospitalist at Children's Hospital Colorado in Colorado Springs including care of pediatric patients admitted to general pediatric wards or observation units, care of well newborns; routine newborn circumcision, lumbar puncture, procedural sedation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

•MD or DO; must be board certified/eligible inPediatric Infectious Diseases and Pediatrics. Must achieve board certificationin Pediatric Infectious Diseases within two (2) years of completing fellowship.Continuous Maintenance of Certification is required .
•Active Colorado state license and DEA certification, or ability to apply.
•Training and expertise in Pediatric Infectious Diseases. 
•Meet all Children's Hospital Colorado credentialing requirements and continuousactive medical staff status.


Preferred Qualifications:

•Experience in hospital infection prevention.
•Experience in hospital epidemiology.
•Experience in antimicrobial stewardship.
•Experience in HIV care.
•Experience in hospital medicine.
•Experience in teaching residents and/or medical students.


Competencies:

•Board certified/eligible in PediatricInfectious Diseases.
•Advanced knowledge of antimicrobials and their use expected.
•Able to work well with all provider styles and type
•Able to design, implement and evaluate process change in hospital systems.
•High customer service skills, team-based patient care, and ability to meetproductivity targets are expected.
•The applicant should be able to work well both independently and as part of ateam.
•Ability to work collaboratively with Advance Practice Providers.
•Ability to be well-organized and efficient in their work and be able toprioritize patient and system needs appropriately.
•The applicant should be highly committed to quality improvement, familycentered care, and evidence based practice.
