We have an opening for dual credit Fire Science faculty beginning with the Spring 2020 semester at Evanston Township High school. Qualified applicants will currently be employed by the Evanston Fire Department as a Firefighter.

Job Description:

Oakton has an opening beginning with the Spring 2020 semester for dual credit Fire Science faculty to teach Introduction to Public Safety Careers -- Fire, Police, and Emergency Medical Services I and II at Evanston Township High School.

Introduction to Public Safety Careers -- Fire, Police, and Emergency Medical Services I and II introduces three areas of public safety: fire, police, and emergency Medical Services. Fire content instructs the student on fire department organization and operations, and general aspects of fire science. Police content instructs the student on police department organization and operations, and different criminal justice careers. Emergency Medical Services content instructs the student on emergency medical technician career paths and an introduction to the health care professional careers.


A Bachelor's degree, Fire Officer II certification, and a minimum of one year of firefighter work experience are required. Current employment as a Firefighter with the Evanston Fire Department is also required.

Fire Science Instructor III certification, OSFM certification in specialty courses, prior teaching experience at other fire academies or post secondary institutions, and additional firefighter work experience are preferred.

All assignments are conditioned on sufficient enrollment. Once a course starts, the part time faculty member is expected to complete the course.
