Job Summary: The Instructional Designer I is responsible for the research, development, planning, implementation, and technical support of courses delivered online. This position is part of the Instructional Designer Job Family.

Additional Department Summary: The instructional designer works collaboratively with faculty, fellow instructional designers, and media and technical support staff to develop creative and engaging courses for online or blended delivery. The instructional designer may envision and/or create interactive learning activities and innovative media elements. Drawing upon experience, theory, and research, the instructional designer makes recommendations to faculty on good online instructional practices that lead to the realization of the desired student learning outcomes.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in education, communications, business, information sciences or related field with a minimum of one year related experience in instructional design, interactive technology, technical support or related field.

Skills and Knowledge: Strong knowledge of pedagogy, especially in the online realm. Excellent project management and time management skills. Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills. Ability to understand, implement, and train others in web/new media content preparation, presentation and production. Ability to implement instructional technology tools for online content preparation, presentation and production. Ability to work with diverse clientele and translate their instructional technology needs.

Preferred Qualifications: Ability to thrive within a collaborative team environment to produce a quality final product within given time constraints. Ability to quickly evaluate and learn new technologies. Strong ability to envision and develop engaging online interactions to concisely convey complicated concepts to student learners. Prefer experience with the Blackboard Learn learning management system and a working knowledge of web accessibility. Prefer experience working with the faculty at an academic institution. Prefer a team player that proactively embraces new challenges, and is willing share knowledge and skills with other members of the course development team.
