As a staff member with the Athletics Department, the Assistant Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Success likewise works collaboratively with the Dean for the Center for University Advising (under the direction of the Vice President for Student Affairs), with the Office of the Provost, the Faculty, and the Vice President for Enrollment Management. As a member of NCAA Division I and the Colonial Athletic Association, the University places the highest priority on the overall quality of the educational experience and the successful completion of the academic programs by student-athletes. The Athletic Department provides programs and leadership for Hofstra to be a model NCAA Division I institution in academic success, athletic excellence, and student retention.

Assistant Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Success supports, sustains and assists with elevating the partnership between excellent academics and athletics. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Success and Retention.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•the Fried Center's Study Hall program;
•per-registration of all new student-athletes as assigned;
•maintains an awareness and understanding of the curriculum, academic rules and regulations, and the unique needs of student-athletes, while respecting the highest standards of integrity and promoting an atmosphere of compliance by maintaining a working knowledge and ongoing awareness of NCAA/ Colonial Athletic Association rules, as well as regulations, policies and procedures of the University;
•coordination of all the academic intervention and academic success services for student-athletes as assigned;
•assist student-athletes in meeting their academic objectives, progress toward a degree, and NCAA eligibility requirements; the preparation of each team's NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and NCAA eligibility certification.

Advising duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•Develop strong capability in using Navigate retention software and CONNECT for maintaining accurate electronic records on students.
•Maintain accurate records and files in compliance with all University, Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
•Collaborate with the Faculty Athletics Representative at multiple levels (i.e., Conference, Provost, College, and School).
•Attend Athletic Department events, competitions, and tournaments–including evenings and weekends and travel as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Success and Retention.
•Attend Division of Student affairs retreats, training, and staff meetings as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Success and Retention.
•Coordinate and proctor make-up exams (at the direction of faculty) as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Success and Retention.
•Monitor assigned student-athletes academic performance, including class schedules of assigned student-athletes and help to resolve any problems or conflicts; monitor study hall requirements; contribute data for mid-semester grade reports; engage in regular contact with the faculty of student-athletes and members of the Student Success Collaborative.
•Assist with NCAA, CAA Conference, and University-wide academic award and recognition nominations for student-athletes as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Success and Retention.
•Proactively respond to student, parent, faculty and coach inquiries. Regularly communicate with student-athletes regarding events and deadlines throughout the academic year and disseminate information to new and continuing students throughout the academic year.
•Consult with the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Success and Retention and the Dean of CUA regarding any significant or complex student-athlete advising issues.
•Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Success and Retention, including serving on campus committees and participating in special projects at the request of the Athletic Director.
•Weekend and evening work for Athletic events and travel with teams is expected.

Qualifications:•Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree preferred in Counseling, Higher Education, Sports Administration or related field.
•Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing intercollegiate athletics.
•Work ethic and student-athlete advising philosophy that cultivates positive relationships engages and initiates best practices in recruitment, academic success, retention and assessment, and shepherds a university-wide student-athlete centered collaboration.
•The successful candidate will possess excellent human relations skills, ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities, perform highly detailed work, strong quantitative and analytical skills, work well under pressure, have comfort with appropriate technologies, and have a passion for working with students of diverse backgrounds. Excellent interpersonal, teaching/presenting, and problem-solving skills are essential.
•Knowledge of the demands on student-athletes matriculated in NCAA Division I athletics program.
•Competency with software applications, Word, Access and Excel, reporting and analytical skills.
•Student-centric, proactive and appreciative advisement philosophy and administrative approach.
•The ideal candidate will have a collaborative disposition and possesses the ability to think both critically and strategically.
