Executive Director - The Denny Center for Democratic Capitalism

Requirements

The Denny Center for Democratic Capitalism will address issues about corporate responsibility in a democratic society. The Executive Director develops plans surrounding democratic capitalism and manages the daily operations of the Denny Center. S/he is responsible for designing and managing initiatives, programs, and events while achieving programmatic success. The incumbent initiates key relationships with high profile stakeholders, raises private gifts and foundation grants, supports faculty priorities and student interests, implements standard procedures and policies, and strengthens the Centers' presence. Reporting directly to the Faculty Director and developing and supervising programs, Fellowships, and students, the Executive Director has additional responsibilities that include but are not limited to:

Center Administration
  • Conducts research in specific areas related to current issues and drafts reports to identify and discuss these issues.
  • Issues an annual report to address the most significant factors occurring during the year that affect the long-term sustainability of free market capitalism.
  • Formulates and manages strategic initiatives, directing progress towards meeting goals and ensuring follow through.
  • Participates in core functions and activities of the Law Center to better situate the Center and capitalize on resources.
  • Coordinates and attends strategic planning meetings, building awareness around strategic initiatives and marketing strategies with the Media Relations group.
  • Creates and recruit's members for a national advisory board for the Center, ensuring all policies and procedures are followed.
  • Supervises, mentors, and trains Fellows, visitors, Research Assistants, and staff as appropriate.


Programs and Curriculum
  • Develops new programming on Democratic Capitalism at the Law Center, managing and facilitating the center events.
  • Works with Faculty, Students, and other Staff to develop curricular substance.
  • Convenes high-level discussions and debates on issues related to programs.
  • Administers curricular pathways, keeping lists of courses and adjunct information current.
  • Supports the development of new practicum courses in consultation with faculty and administrative staff.
  • Develops and maintains database of externship opportunities in consultation with D.C.-based members of alumni/ae advisory board.
  • Conducts outreach across disciplines on the main campus for possible collaboration in courses, scholarship, and degree programs.
  • Monitors the development in the academic area.


Fundraising
  • Manages the Denny Center fundraising efforts and takes responsibility for all stages of the fundraising continuum, including discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Identifies and engages potential major gifts and grants, developing strategy for visiting prospects to promote center initiatives.
  • Develops funding to support programming and research by the affiliated entities.
  • Collaborates with the Gift Officers, the Grants team, and prospects.
  • In cooperation with, and with support from, the Corporate and Foundation Relations Office, prepares grant proposals on behalf of Denny Center to help to further build the Center's programs.
  • Secures funding to support after start-up period and any administrative support center requires.


Other Duties
  • Oversees and manages center budget process, ensuring all deadlines are met for grants, gifts, and close, and analyzing and realigning resources.
  • Communicates with and maintains relationships with public figures and experts to involve them in Georgetown Law Events on democratic capitalism.
  • Establishes Georgetown Law as a venue of choice for meetings with high level decision-makers on issues of importance.
  • Works as force multiplier for existing events being organized by affiliated centers.
  • Develops media presence and provides materials as needed.


Requirements and Qualifications:
  • J.D.
  • At least 7+ years of progressive experience related to this field
  • Demonstrated organizational and grant writing skills
  • Deep expertise in the area of democratic capitalism
  • Experience in an academic administration as well as project management and mentorship of junior colleagues and/or students is preferred
