The Assistant Director of Orientation is responsible for assuring a smooth transition for approximately 2000 new first year and 1500 new transfer students to UMBC each year. For both groups of students, there is a parallel orientation program for their family members, also under the direction of this position. Most orientation programming takes place in a one-day format, hosting 20 sessions in the summer and 10 sessions in the winter, with additional programming overnight and weekends for extended orientation options.

UMBC has been consistently recognized by US News and World Report as a "higher education trailblazer". We welcome innovative and creative thinkers to join our Enrollment Management team.

Responsibilities include:

Manage the orientation programs, daily and extended, for first-year students, transfer students and all family members over the summer and winter sessions. Coordinate the interactions between the many offices on campus who participate on a regular basis with the sessions. Manage the Program Coordinator and Student Orientation Leaders.

Plan for the upcoming orientation cycle, communicate with participants electronically and through presentations, work with the implementation committee to set agendas, prepare sessions, and collaborate effectively to improve programming each year.

Serve as an admissions officer traveling to high schools and college fairs, reading applications, daily admissions communications functions and events management.

During the Orientation season, the Assistant Director manages 25 student orientation peer advisors, three (3) student orientation leaders, the Association for Orientation, Transition, and Retention in Higher Education (NODA) Intern, and works with many of the operations areas staff within admissions to produce the events.

This office also recruits, processes, and selects all new undergraduate students to UMBC. In this capacity, the Assistant Director manages several key projects of the office and serves in various Admissions Officer functions as needed, including but not limited to recruitment travel, file reading, daily admissions communications functions and events management.
