General Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Charter Schools, provide leadership and administrative service necessary to accomplish the goals of Eastern Michigan University's Division of Academic Affairs as they pertain to Charter Schools

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in providing leadership and direction to the Charter Schools Office.

Assist in supervision of Charter Schools Office staff.

Establish a collaborative and supportive working relationship with each of Eastern Michigan University's Charter Schools' authorized board of directors, administrative and instructional staff and education service providers, when appropriate.

Assist in training each board of directors to provide them with necessary knowledge, skills and procedures to perform effective governance of a public school academy.

Participate on and/or provide leadership to university-sponsored committees.

Plan and conduct charter school leader seminars for State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECH) credits.

Oversee staff development support efforts at the University's Charter Schools.

Participate in the collection of data, preparation of reports and presentations to the University's Board of Regents to include recommended action items.

Participate in the review of applications and the authorizing process for public school academies.

Participate in assuring that academics are in compliance with each school's charter contract with Eastern Michigan University.

Participate in academy evaluation and the re-authorization process.

Participate in research projects on charter schools, including EMU's charter school communities.

Participate on and/or provide leadership to organizations affiliated with the charter movement.

Manage departmental website.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

An advanced level of planning, communication and problem solving skills with specialized knowledge of the education field typically acquired through a Master's degree in Education or related field. Doctoral degree preferred.

Five years of experience in instruction, leadership, professional development and/or evaluation/assessment in traditional K-12 education, charter schools, higher education or related professional industry, with an emphasis on primary and secondary education.
