Tenure Track Faculty Position
The School of Physical Therapy (SOPT) at Marshall University invites applications for a 12-month*, full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of an assistant professor or a rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. The candidate will have the ability to teach in two or more of the following areas: biomechanics, kinesiology, motor control, gross anatomy, or human physiology. Additional teaching opportunities may exist in selected clinical areas based on education, experience, or specialty certification. The faculty member will participate in both independent and team teaching. Responsibilities include teaching and advising DPT students, active engagement in scholarship, and participation on relevant school, college and university committees. Release time is available for clinical practice in the community or professional consultation for candidates who do not have a physical therapy degree.
The SOPT provides high quality, innovative, learner-centered DPT education that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The DPT program offers a hybrid curriculum that integrates traditional lecture with a modified case-based approach to graduate evidence-based Doctors of Physical Therapy. The SOPT is a newer 22,000-square-foot facility one mile from the main campus. It includes three classrooms/laboratories, a 2000 sq. ft. research laboratory, faculty/administrative offices, conference room, kitchen/lounge, student locker rooms, and a spacious student lounge. The program admits up to 40 DPT students each Summer. The SOPT provides a very competitive salary and benefits package, generous financial support for professional development, and reimbursement for APTA or professional membership and state licensure dues. Marshall is an R2 (Doctoral–high research activity) state-supported university with approximately 14,000 total students (10,000 undergraduates and 4,000 graduate/professional students). The main campus is located on 100 acres in the city of Huntington, WV, on the Ohio River about 20 miles east of the Kentucky border and less than 1-mile south of the Ohio border. Marshall University has experienced tremendous growth in the past decade with the addition of several professional degrees in health care. Marshall University has numerous graduate programs, including medicine, pharmacy, health informatics, biomechanics, dietetics, public health, and social work. This provides excellent opportunities for interprofessional academic and research collaborations. The Huntington area offers low cost of living and endless recreational opportunities. The quality of living in Huntington and the surrounding area is pleasant, with numerous outdoor activities available and miles of beautiful trails, bike paths, parks, and forests. Festivals and events are frequent, with offerings from both Marshall University and the surrounding communities. The Huntington community offers multiple affiliated health care facilities within a short distance from the SOPT, including Cabell Huntington Hospital, St. Mary’s Medical Center, and the VA Medical Center.

Terminal academic degree (PhD/EdD/DSc) or equivalent academic doctoral degree in an area of teaching emphasis. Candidates with and without a physical therapy degree are encouraged to apply. Doctoral candidates who are ABD and will graduate by June 2020 may apply.
