Requirements

The Mail Clerk greets customers (students, faculty and staff) in a courteous and cordial manner to ensure a positive and helpful impression. S/he drives postal vehicles, including large box trucks to pick up mail from the United states Postal Service (USPS) to include Accountable mail. The incumbent will receive, scan, and sort all USPS, campus mail and packages delivered to Mail Services. The Mail Clerk will also deliver all mail and packages to University departments and students' residence halls, on and off campus. Having daily interactions with Georgetown students, faculty and staff, the Mail Clerk has additional duties that include but are not limited to:
  • Sorts and processes any and all mail and packages, including scanning and sorting by department and residence hall.
  • Picks-up and delivers any and all mail and packages to University departments, and residence halls on and off campus.
  • Uses the University directory to research mail and packages without a proper address, and properly redirects for delivery.
  • Answers phone calls and forwards messages to the appropriate party.
  • Maintains work areas to ensure a professional image and safe working environment at all times, as well as mail vehicles for cleanliness and safety.
  • Ensures preventive maintenance of postal vehicles and performs other postal related duties as may be required to accomplish the department's mission.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • High School graduate, or GED equivalent
  • At least six (6) months experience in a medium to large mailroom, preferably in a university setting
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds
  • Willing to work overtime, when required
