Job FieldThe Department ofPsychology at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applicationsfor a teaching stream appointment in Psychology in the area of Statistics. The appointmentwill be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream and will commenceon July 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter. 

The successful candidate must have a PhD in Psychology, or a closely relatedfield by the time of appointment, or shortly therefore, and must have teachingexperience in statistics from a degree granting program at the Universitylevel. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and strengthenour existing departmentalstrengths. The successful candidate should be well-versed in currentstatistical methods and tools in Psychology, with expertise in at least one ormore of methods such as multiple regression, Bayesian statistics,non-parametric statistics, structural equation modeling, mixed effectsmodeling, logistic regression, factor analysis, or use of R.  They should also have teaching experience inpsychological research methods and at least one discipline-specific area, suchas in cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology,clinical psychology, quantitative psychology, or neuroscience. This experienceshould include lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, anddevelopment of online material/lectures. 

Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in teaching, and demonstrate a commitmentto excellence and engagement in pedagogical/professional development andpractices, with clear indication of future ongoing development, and demonstratean interest in teaching-related scholarly activities, Excellence in teaching andpedagogy  may include a combination ofexcellent teaching skills, creative educational leadership and/or achievement,and innovative teaching initiatives. These must be demonstrated in a teachingportfolio that includes teaching accomplishments, a compelling statement ofteaching philosophy and goals, accompanied by a narrative that demonstrates howthe candidate’s teaching practice aligns with their philosophy and goals, coursesyllabi, and teaching evaluations, as well as by strong letters of referencefrom referees of high standing. Additional evidence of excellence in teachingcan also include:  documentation ofexcellent performance in other teaching related activities, such as conductingpedagogical research, supervising undergraduate research projects, awards andaccolades, leading successful workshops or seminars, and/or presenting atconferences. Experience and/or knowledge related to evidence-based pedagogicalpractice as it applies to teaching courses in quantitative and/or researchmethods in psychology will be considered an asset.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses instatistics and at least one content area (as listed above), and to superviseundergraduate students in research projects.  Salary will be commensurate withqualifications and experience.
