DESCRIPTION

The Department of Family Medicine and Public Health has approximately 100 salaried faculty and is comprised of seven divisions: Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Family Medicine, Health Policy, Global Health, Preventive Medicine, and Behavioral Health. Our mission is to improve Public Health through preventive, behavioral, epidemiologic and clinical research, education and clinical care. Our patient care is provided at several locations across the county as well as through multiple initiatives with the medically underserved in our community and includes training of over 60 residents and fellows. With over $125 million in research grants and contracts, our award-winning faculty conduct innovative Public Health research at the intersection of behavioral and medical sciences to assess and understand chronic disease etiology, improve human health and prevent disease at the individual and population level.

Under direct supervision, the position will be responsible for bioinformatics analysis and support, including management of databases, running analyses and assisting students. The position will also be responsible for quality control of the genetic data sets, including will perform imputation (statistical method to infer measured genetic variants) and GWAS analysis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

  • Acquiring knowledge of research function. Acquiring ability to perform research analysis duties.

  • Acquiring statistical analysis, systems programming, and database design skills to perform research analysis duties.

  • Ability to effectively manage time and see assigned parts of projects through to completion on deadline.

  • Basic consultation and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis implementation or creating analysis reports.

  • Knowledge in statistical asymptotic theory and generalized linear models.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in bioinformatics/biostatistics

  • Experience with deep learning and associated programming.
