Assistant Professor (tenure-track) - Department of Astronomy
The Department of Astronomy at Case Western Reserve University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the fields of stellar physics and/or stellar populations, such as the properties and evolution of individual stars and/or stellar populations in the Milky Way and nearby galaxies, to begin on or about August 17, 2020. Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D., an active research program with the promise to build an international reputation and attract external research funding, teach both introductory and advanced courses, and mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The teaching load is one course per semester, plus student mentoring and occasional one credit seminars.
The CWRU Department of Astronomy has historical strengths in stars and stellar populations, as well as active research programs in extragalactic astronomy and cosmology. The department owns and operates the Burrell Schmidt telescope on Kitt Peak, and has a diverse array of computational assets.
