Job Summary: The Director Research Center is responsible for the daily administration of a specific program or department within a research center. The Director Research Center may also serve as a scientific and/or research ambassador and will be responsible for developing new consulting and research opportunities.

Additional Department Summary: The position provides the leadership and direction for a new AITC statewide initiative to assist existing and emerging Alabama life sciences and biotech companies and other technology-based firms in an overall effort to support company growth and expansion into overseas markets. The position provides in-depth technical assistance to Alabama companies for entry and expansion in foreign country markets by helping with product regulations, customer and market evaluation, product trials and testing, and access to financing. The position develops and maintains a professional network with international regulatory authorities, government funding sources, private and venture capital sources, and overseas technology development enterprises. The director provides instruction and training to companies on international market development topics within the life sciences and technology sector.

The director implements a statewide strategy to foster growth opportunities in the Alabama life sciences and technology sector and responds to a growing demand from companies in this sector to expand their business in foreign markets. The position develops funding sources for both the AITC program initiative and for project financing for AITC customer companies. The director works in cooperation with the State of Alabama Department of Commerce, the Hudson Alpha Institute, Bio Alabama trade association, and the state’s technology-oriented incubators and research universities. The director helps AITC to build its business advising capabilities to serve the life sciences sector and supports other AITC and SBDC business advisors with joint client visitations, project and strategy development for clients, and access to financing resources.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience; OR Master's degree and three (3) years of experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience in international business development in technology fields; OR Master's degree and three (3) years of experience in international business development in technology fields.

Skills and Knowledge: Experience in navigating the regulatory environment, market entry, and commercialization opportunities in foreign markets.

Preferred Qualifications: A master’s degree in business or related discipline and a minimum of ten years of work experience in international business development in technology fields. Preference will be given to candidates with international business experience in the life sciences and biotechnology fields, or with technology-based companies and the financial industry.
