Requirements

The Assistant Director of Career Strategy is responsible for ensuring high quality advising and coaching services to all JD students. S/he provides one-on-one career advising and coaching services to one of the 1L sections of the first year class and/or to upper-class students in their 2L and 3L years. The incumbent also has a specific area of focus, including diversity initiatives, business and corporate law initiatives, small and regional firm initiatives, judicial clerkships, OCS communications and marketing, transfer student initiatives, and international JD student initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Career Strategy and working very closely with his/her OCS colleagues, the Assistant Director has additional duties that include but are not limited to:

Ongoing Career Advising & Coaching for Students
  • Provides proactive individualized career coaching and advising to over 100 students assigned to the Assistant Director, including developing a career plan and strategy, and collecting and maintaining employment data for each student.

Programming
  • Creates and implements programming, networking events, and resource development for area of expertise, including diversity and inclusion, business & corporate initiatives, and alternative careers.
  • Addresses concerns of students in these areas, and liaises with student groups associated with these areas.

Practice Area and Region Expertise
  • Gains expertise in one practice area and one region of the country in order to advise students interested in these.
  • Creates programming, resources, and connections in these areas.

Outreach
  • Represents OCS at events related to areas of focus, such as conferences, diversity events, alumni events, and local recruiting events.
  • Meets with employers in focus areas to educate them about Georgetown students, programming, and curricula in order to increase opportunities for students.
  • Increases employer and alumni participation in OCS events such as information panels, networking events, and on
  • and-off campus recruitment programs.
  • Serves as liaison to other departments and student groups to provide programming, resources, and coordination of services for the benefit of students.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • JD degree
  • Experience in the private sector
  • Experience in or related knowledge of law student career advising
  • Coaching training preferred
  • Knowledge of Symplicity preferred
