Requirements

The Director of Digital Marketing will develop and lead a comprehensive digital marketing strategy for Georgetown University's Office of Annual Giving. The primary responsibilities for this new role will be to evaluate the current state of digital marketing for annual giving, identify key opportunities for improvement and growth, and implement both short- and long-term strategies that will increase donor acquisition and retention.

More specifically, the Director will:
  • Partner with school and unit annual giving leads to develop segmented and university-wide digital marketing strategies.
  • Oversee daily operations for building and sending a high volume of targeted annual giving emails.
  • Develop and oversee comprehensive metrics and analysis for digital marketing.
  • Ensure all annual giving digital outreach is coordinated and meets a high standard of quality.
  • Develop processes, guidelines, and governance mechanisms for supplemental digital outreach conducted by Georgetown's broader community of staff and volunteers (e.g. peer-to-peer outreach, social media posts, crowdfunding, etc.).
  • Remain knowledgeable of ongoing industry and technology trends and advise Georgetown on ways it can improve, expand, and/or refocus its annual giving program through digital marketing.
  • Partner with Advancement Communications on large, collaborative projects (e.g. giving day, online giving forms) and represent Annual Giving in key Advancement-wide discussions about digital platforms, strategies, and projects.

The Director will report to the Senior Director of Direct Response Marketing and will manage one Assistant Director of Digital Marketing. The Director will also work closely with other Annual Giving leaders who oversee individual school and unit programs, as well as digital marketing leads from Advancement Communications.

The Team
The Annual Giving team drives donor acquisition and retention through traditional and innovative annual giving strategies, in-depth analysis, and strong internal partnerships. The team is comprised of three functional areas: marketing operations, data and analytics, and school and unit partnerships. The marketing operations team is comprised of functional experts who develop strategies for and implement marketing across print, digital, social, and phone mediums. The data and analytics staff provide regular reporting and program assessment, and conduct in-depth analysis that drives business decisions. School and unit staff work with academic and development colleagues, and the two other Annual Giving teams, to develop annual giving marketing strategies for their respective school(s) and/or unit(s).

  • Experience managing or at least working intimately with social media channels and various digital engagement tools
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 6-10 years of professional experience in digital marketing, annual giving, and/or fundraising, preferably in a higher education or non-profit environment
