The teaching hospital affiliated with ECU Brody School of Medicine is Vidant Medical Center (formerly Pitt County Memorial Hospital), a 900+ bed tertiary care academic medical center serving Eastern and coastal North Carolina. The hospital provides acute, intermediate, rehabilitation, and outpatient health services to more than 1.4 million people in 29 counties.

The hospital also has a 52 bed psychiatric service that houses acute beds, combine MI-ID beds, and combined Med-Psych beds.

Job Duties

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is accepting applications for an Adult Psychiatrist to serve as a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor.

This position offers an excellent blend of clinical care, teaching, and scholarly activities in a growing, multidisciplinary, and collegial Department.

The successful candidates will provide direct clinical care in both community-based and academic settings;

assisting in the teaching and clinical supervision of medical students, residents, and other health professional trainees;

collaborating with other faculty members in conducting clinical research, with the opportunity to initiate projects;

and functioning as University faculty members, performing such duties as appropriate to academic rank and position.

The clinical responsibilities may be in hospital-based (inpatient or CL Service) and/or outpatient settings, including services via telepsychiatry.

Fixed Term or Tenure Track positions available at the title/rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.

Salary and academic rank/title (tenure track or fixed term) commensurate with experience and academic background

Minimum Education/Experience

Graduate of a medical school approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education of the AAMC and the Council of Medical Education of the AMA.

Completion of an accredited psychiatric residency training program or Graduate of an approved combined medicine-psychiatry or family medicine-psychiatry residency training program or satisfactory completion of training in both internal or family medicine and psychiatry.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation


Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Experience in working collaboratively with other mental health professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Clinical experience working with persons who have developmental disabilities.

Experience in conducting clinical research.

Experience in medical education.

Experience in psychiatric administration and management.
