Director of Student AccessAbility Services

Eastern Connecticut State University, the state’s public liberal arts university, seeks to fill the Director of Student AccessAbility Services position.  Under the supervision of the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services, the director will be responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing programs, services, policies, and procedures for the office.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The director supervises the professional and paraprofessional staff; establishes and maintains the highest standards for a disabilities services office that consistently incorporate the current best practices and principles for services for students with disabilities; serves as an advocate for students with disabilities to ensure an understanding and responsiveness for and to their needs.  Other responsibilities include the review of documentation and determination of reasonable accommodations and auxiliary services who qualify for accommodations under the American with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act and the related amendments.

The director will also provide consultation, information, resources, and training workshops to faculty, staff, and students and prospective students and parents as needed.  In addition, the director will work with and train faculty and staff to provide individual accommodations for students; must form and maintain liaison/networking relationships with community and external agencies, state and federal rehabilitation services, including area high schools, and community colleges.

Qualifications:

 Master’s degree is required in special education, psychology, social work, counseling or related field; five years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Recognized and proven ability to coordinate a large multifaceted program of student support services and working collaboratively with faculty and staff.  The candidate must have knowledge of relevant Federal and State statues and regulations (Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; American with Disabilities Act of 1990 as amended), as applicable to the provision of accommodations to students with disabilities in a university setting.
