Artist Teacher (Assistant/Associate Professor) of Applied Trumpet

Position: Assistant/Associate Professor of Trumpet. This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position to begin on August 16, 2020.

 

Duties: Teach undergraduate and graduate applied trumpet; teach trumpet pedagogy and literature; and coach chamber ensembles. In addition, the successful candidate will rehearse and perform with the Faculty Brass Quintet, serve on selected committees, perform as a soloist both on- and off-campus, and may be assigned other duties based on individual strengths and the needs of the School of Music. The active recruitment and retention of trumpet students to develop and maintain an applied studio of distinction is an essential role of this position. 


Salary, Rank, and Benefits: Salary based upon qualifications and experience. Full-time benefits include retirement, health, dental, and eye-care insurance.

Illinois State University is located in Normal/Bloomington, Illinois, twin cities with a combined population of 167,000. The University enrolls approximately 21,000 students. The School of Music, one of three schools within the College of Fine Arts, has an enrollment of 400 music majors: 330 undergraduate and 70 graduate students. The School of Music has 50 full-time faculty and 50 graduate assistants.  

 

Required Qualifications

1. Doctorate in trumpet performance or a closely related field. ABD considered. Doctorate required for tenure, although professional equivalency may be considered.

2. Successful teaching experience at the collegiate level.

3. A positive, demonstrable record of student recruitment and retention at the collegiate level.

4. A record of artistic achievement that includes an established or emerging record of performances and presentations, and service to the profession.    

5. Candidates must be able to demonstrate oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position, as mandated by state law.
6. This position is security sensitive and employment is contingent upon passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.
