Payroll and Benefits Specialist

Goshen College seeks a .75 FTE (30 hours/week) Payroll and Benefits Specialist. Primary responsibilities include processing semi-monthly staff and faculty payroll in a timely and accurate manner, administering and coordinating work time in the Human Resources Office with an emphasis on payroll/HR workflow, payroll and benefit-related data entry, new hire set-up, and administrative support.

Duties:

Maintain confidentiality of Human Resources and Payroll records and information including employee personal information when performing the following duties:

  • Processing payroll semi-monthly, checking for accuracy of time cards and final pay numbers
  • Accurate preparation and remittance of retirement fund payments with each payroll
  • Communicating with benefit vendors – process and terminate benefits for employee selections as needed
  • Process department invoices for payment
  • Input HR information accurately into HRIS database and other systems/databases as applicable
  • New employee setup – I-9 verification, position setup, computer account requests, benefit enrollment, and onboarding preparation
  • Coordinate new employee orientations
  • Enter and track required training for Goshen College employees
  • Answer phone and respond to inquiries, direct calls to appropriate individuals, take and relay messages, and maintain communication between the College Community and HR Department
  • Maintain general office management functions – opening and distributing mail, verification of employment, paying bills, scheduling meetings, perform routine clerical functions such as data entry, department filing, photocopying, scanning, greeting visitors, etc.
  • Assist with Human Resources projects, such as massage day, wellness screenings, benefits fair, trainings, etc.
  • Oversee maintenance of employee files to comply with college and legal standards.
Qualifications:

Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience; prefer at least one year of HR or payroll experience and 3 years in clerical or administrative assistant role required.

Experience in accounts payable/receivable strongly preferred. Experience with Jenzabar/HRIS system and ADP is preferred. Fluency with standard software programs in a windows environment required.
