Faculty Position in Bioengineering

The Department of Bioengineering (BNG) at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level beginning in September 2020. Candidates with a strong record of scholarship in the engineering of biological systems and who have research expertise in areas such as biomanufacturing, synthetic biology, biomolecular engineering, biomedical engineering, biosensors, tissue engineering, or regenerative medicine will be considered. The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth has growing expertise and a strong interdisciplinary emphasis in biological systems engineering that contributes significantly to meeting the need of industry, government, and education for research, innovation and leadership in biomedicine and biotechnology. We expect the successful candidate to establish a strong independent research program while strengthening interdisciplinary collaborations with researchers across campus.

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is located in the beautiful ocean side community of Dartmouth, about an hour south of Boston, half-hour east of Providence, and half-hour west of Cape Cod. The College of Engineering is comprised of six departments: Bioengineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer and Information Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics. We offer 8 undergraduate degree programs with 5 concentrations, 11 graduate programs, and 6 accelerated BS-MS programs that serve more than 1,250 undergraduate and 300 graduate students. The goals of the college are to prepare graduates to meet 21^st-century technological challenges and improve the well-being of society; create new knowledge in engineering, technology, and computer science; and engage and develop students to become leaders in their fields through service and scholarship.

Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally recognized, externally funded research program; teach and advise undergraduate and graduate students; enhance the bioengineering curriculum; contribute to university and professional service; foster interdisciplinary collaborations; and engage in college and university diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in bioengineering or a closely related field at the time of appointment, be able to teach courses in bioengineering, and demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence and scholarly research as well as diversity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong candidates will have research experience in the engineering of biological systems and teaching experience in higher education. Postdoctoral research in an interdisciplinary setting is highly desirable.
