Faculty Position in Computer and Information Science

The Department of Computer and Information Science (CIS) in the College of Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level beginning in September 2020. The department is particularly interested in candidates with research focus in the areas of data analytics, human-computer interaction, and data visualization. The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth has growing expertise and a strong interdisciplinary emphasis in data analytics that incorporates informatics, machine learning, data analysis, and predictive and visual analytics. We expect the successful candidate to establish a strong independent research program while strengthening interdisciplinary collaborations with researchers across campus.

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is located in the beautiful ocean side community of Dartmouth, about an hour south of Boston, half-hour east of Providence, and half-hour west of Cape Cod. It offers a world-class education to more than 9,300 undergraduate and graduate students each year in over 40 undergraduate and 23 graduate programs offered by the College of Engineering, College of Nursing, Charlton College of Business, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Visual and Performing Arts, School of Law and School for Marine Science and Technology.

The College of Engineering is comprised of six departments: Bioengineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer and Information Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics. We offer 8 undergraduate degree programs with 5 concentrations, 11 graduate programs, and 6 accelerated BS-MS programs that serve more than 1,250 undergraduate and 300 graduate students. The goals of the college are to prepare graduates to meet 21st-century technological challenges and improve the well-being of society; create new knowledge in engineering, technology, and computer science; and engage and develop students to become leaders in their fields through service and scholarship.


The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally recognized, externally funded research program; teach and advise undergraduate and graduate students; enhance the computer science curriculum; contribute to university and professional service; foster interdisciplinary collaborations; and engage in college and university diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in computer science or a closely related field at the time of appointment, be able to teach courses in computer science and data science, and demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence and scholarly research as well as diversity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong candidates will have research experience in a computer science field and teaching experience in higher education. Postdoctoral research in an interdisciplinary setting is highly desirable.
