The Gao lab utilizes structural biology techniques to investigate the molecular mechanisms of DNA replication, repair and recombination. We employ cryo-electron microscopy, x-ray crystallography, and various biochemical and biophysical approaches to characterize how enzymes and motors work together to accomplish these elaborate processes (see Gao’s recent publications https://science.sciencemag.org/content/352/6291/1334 and https://science.sciencemag.org/content/363/6429/eaav7003.abstract).

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be involved in investigating the structural basis of Mitochondria DNA replication, with cryo-electron microscopy as the major technique. He/She will carry out in vitro reconstitution and biochemical and structural characterizations of the Mitochondria DNA replication system. The research is supported by CPRIT funding.

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with independent thinking and project management ability. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in structural biology and biochemistry. Experience in cryo-electron microscopy is preferred but not required.
