Open Date:

Description:

An NIH-funded postdoctoral position focused on the impact of estrogens and estrogen receptors on female cognitive aging and risk of Alzheimer’s disease is available in the neuroendocrinology laboratory of Dr. Jill Daniel at the Brain Institute at Tulane University.

The broad goal of the research conducted in the lab is to understand the impact of estrogens and androgens on the brain and cognition across the lifespan, from early in development during which they help organize mammalian brains as male or female to later in life during which changes in their levels impact the aging brain and risk for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. The current position is funded by a grant from the National Institute for Aging that aims to understand how short-term midlife estradiol administration can exert long-term impacts on brain and memory, including risk for Alzheimer’s disease. Research is conducted in rodent models and experimental approaches used in the lab include behavioral analyses, biochemical and molecular assays, and viral-vector mediated and pharmacological neural manipulations.

Qualifications:

Required:

1. PhD in neuroscience or a related field

2. Ability to complete and pass successfully the required occupational health screening referenced in the University’s Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program on an annual basis.

Preferred:

1. Experience with running rodent behavioral assays

2. Experience performing biomolecular assays

3. Experience in rodent survival surgery

4. At least one first-author publication

Application Instructions:

Applicants should send a CV, brief statement of research interests, and contact information for 2-3 references to Dr. Jill Daniel at jmdaniel@tulane.edu. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.
