Position Qualifications - Responsibilities:

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Kennesaw State University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry.

Teaching expectations include organic chemistry and advanced courses in the candidate’s expertise at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Advising and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students is expected.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate, through peer-reviewed publications, strong potential to establish a productive program of research using undergraduate and/or graduate students (M.S.). It is expected that each applicant’s research program will complement and extend the diverse research interests of the faculty within our department and college (http://csm.kennesaw.edu/research/index.php). Applicants in all areas of organic chemistry will be considered. Candidates who can develop a collaborative and innovative research program in the areas of polymer chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, or organic materials, are particularly encouraged to apply.

Participation in professional service activities within the Department, the University, and beyond is also an expectation.

Required Education - Experience - Skills (Minimum Qualifications):

Qualified applicants will have: 1) an earned doctorate in organic chemistry or a closely related discipline or its foreign equivalent by the position start date; 2) post-doctoral experience with a demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed publications;
3) a well-articulated research agenda capable of generating external funding and appropriate for graduate (M.S.) and undergraduate research students; 4) a clear philosophy of teaching and evidence of effective instruction in their area of expertise.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Kennesaw State University offers ACS accredited degree programs in chemistry and biochemistry in addition to concentrations in forensic chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry. In addition, the department offers a Masters in Chemical Sciences. Our Department has experienced extraordinary growth in the last few years, growing from 79 majors in chemistry and biochemistry in the Fall of 1998 semester to 600+ majors in the Fall of 2018. We have a bright and energetic faculty and a dedicated, helpful professional staff who are all available to assist our students as they grow and mature as scientists. The faculty members have research interests that span all of the typical subdisciplines of chemistry: analytical, biochemistry, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry. Undergraduate research is a critical component of our students’ preparation and training, and all of our faculty members engage in undergraduate research.
