DescriptionTheSchool of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) invitesapplications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Social Work position tobegin in August 2020. Preferencewill be given to applicants with expertise in one or more of the followingareas: (1) direct social work practice (micro or macro), (2) military socialwork, (3) research methods, (4) healthcare social work, hand/or (5) HumanBehavior and the Social Environment.


The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)and Master of Social Work (MSW) are new degree programs at UCCS, with the firststudents starting in Fall 2020. Application for Council on Social WorkEducation (CSWE) candidacy will be initiated in January 2020 with fullaccreditation anticipated by 2023. Thetypical time allocation for tenure-track faculty in the School of PublicAffairs is 40% teaching, 40% research, and 20% service.  The pre-tenure teaching load is a 2-2 (4classes per academic year, typically 2 classes in each fall and springsemester); the post-tenure teaching load is a 3-2 (5 classes per academicyear). The scholar in this position will primarily teach graduate-level coursesin Social Work, with occasional course assignments at the undergraduate levelas needed. The position requires a flexibleteaching schedule to include day and evening classes as well as the ability toteach in a variety of formats (e.g., face-to-face, hybrid, and online). Theassistant professor will contribute to curriculum development and accreditationprocesses. This position reports to the Chair of Social Work.

    QualificationsMinimumQualifications

  • PhD in Social Work or a related social or behavioral science discipline from an accredited institution.  ABD candidates will be considered; however, PhD must be conferred by August 16, 2020.
  • Anearned Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a program accredited by the Councilon Social Work Education.
  • Aminimum of 24 months of post-MSW professional social work experience.
  • PreferredQualifications

    • A minimumof 9 months of higher education teaching experience in Social Work, or arelated discipline.
