ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Position SummaryReporting to the College of Law Director of the Academic Success Program and collaborating with other faculty and staff, the Assistant Director of Academic Support assists students and graduates both as they progress through the College of Law and after they graduate. The Assistant Director of Academic Support helps develop, implement, and coordinate college-wide initiatives to improve overall law school academic success and bar passage, including workshops and other programming as needed.

The Academic Success Program welcomes candidates who (1) have a passion for working with law students; (2) have experience working with diverse groups of individuals with varying levels of academic ability; (3) have strong communication and organizational skills; and (4) exhibit a high degree of professionalism and ability to work in both self-directed environments or in a group setting.

Assists with overseeing and developing materials for pilot peer mentor and tutoring program.

Assists with coordinating and implementing academic support initiatives and programs.

Assists with planning and implementing skills workshops.

Assists with planning and implementing program to assist students classified as at risk after the first semester and during the second and third year.

Reviews written submissions from students and offers feedback to help them improve their writing and analytical skills.

Helps individual students and graduates develop and execute customized study plans and strategies for law school success and bar passage and meets regularly with students and graduates who are preparing for the bar exam to mentor and counsel from first year through bar passage.

Implements and evaluates existing bar preparation services including, but not limited to organizing summer and winter programs and provides general assistance with bar application completion and character and fitness questions.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Juris Doctor

Minimum RequirementsA Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited institution

A member in good standing with a state bar

At least 1 year experience working with bar preparation programs and/or academic support programs or equivalent experience that would suggest fitness to provide creative direction in a burgeoning and developing program

    A member in good standing with the Michigan Bar.
