The Retail Manager embodies the Reynolda brand through effective operations, purchasing, marketing, and selling of merchandise at current and future retail outlets. This key role is responsible for the retail operations of the Reynolda House Museum Store and strives to meet revenue projections, promote the brand, and create an excellent guest experience. The manager is collaborative, responsive, and approachable.

Essential Functions
Major Tasks and Responsibilities
- Manages the retail operations for Reynolda, including the Museum Store, promotes the brand, and creates an excellent guest experience
- Contributes to the overall strategic plan for retail operations at Reynolda
- Plans, develops, and implements policies and procedures related to retail operations specifically integrating the guest experience and museum orientation
- Reports to the Director of Events and Visitor Experience and collaborates with the Director of Advancement
- Manages retail operations budget and advises on annual projected revenue by reviewing operating and financial statements and departmental sales records
- Interprets, analyzes, and utilizes retail sales data and metrics
- Markets merchandise by studying advertising, sales promotion, and display plans; analyzing operating and financial statements for profitability ratios
- Formulates pricing policies by reviewing merchandising activities; determining additional needed sales promotion; authorizing clearance sales
- Ensures availability of merchandise and services by approving contracts; maintaining inventories
- Maintains the stability and reputation of the store by complying with legal requirements
- Secures merchandise by implementing security systems and inventory check measures
- Stays current on retail trends and explores new merchandise to maintain relevancy among a growing and diverse audience
- Creates an aesthetic display of merchandise and ensures a professional and orderly appearance of the merchandise at all times
- Provides exceptional sales experience for all guests and “personal shopping” service when appropriate for Wake Forest staff, key donors, and VIPs
- Assists marketing and promotion through representing Reynolda to external parties
- Monitors and responds to online and in-person visitor reviews, concerns, donation requests, and general inquiries
- Manages staffing requirements and training for retail operations with the Director of Events and Visitor Experience
- Trains as a visitor experience specialist especially in closing, opening, admissions, and other front desk duties as needed. Serves as on-the-floor manager as needed.

- Identifies and acts on opportunities to expand retail operations at and in support of Reynolda House and Reynolda Gardens
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Other Functions
- Processes transactions at the point-of-sale, store sales, and refunds.
- Serves as a liaison with other Reynolda retailers and merchants
- Supports the overall functions of the Advancement Department.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field with 3-5 years of retail management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Understanding and appreciation of Reynolda House strategic directions and priorities, and of the Reynolda brand platform
- Knowledge of retail trends, principles and practices
- Proven track record of meeting sales goals and demonstrating creativity in marketing merchandise
- Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures; excellent customer service skills
- Knowledge of inventory control procedures and documentation requirements
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of visitors, donors, staff, and other constituencies
- Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects and events
- Knowledge of budget development and fiscal management
- Skill in technology including cash registers, POS systems, web-based databases and ticketing platforms
- Ability to anticipate and resolve scheduling and staffing problems
- Ability to work occasional weekends and evening/night hours as needed
- Ability to meet the requirements of the University’s automobile insurance
