The College of Education has approximately 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students in four departments. The mission of the Department of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Education is to work collaboratively across the STEAM disciplines and with local stakeholders, the department prepares K-12 teachers and future school leaders who provide safe, democratic learning environments in which all students have access to experiences that strengthen their academic, personal, social, and physical wellbeing. The Health & Physical Education program addresses the College of Education’s primary mission to positively impact and develop local, regional, national and global K-12 education. Students learn to use, sports, health, lifetime physical activities, and exercise-science, in age-appropriate programs for youth. Through a multidisciplinary approach, students gain the skills necessary to work with individuals and diverse groups, in a variety of comprehensive school health and physical activity settings.

The College of Education invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Health and Physical Education. This is a full-time, tenure track position. The successful candidate will have a strong background in health and physical education and will teach 6 to 12 credits in foundation and pedagogy courses per semester, in health and physical education for K-12 teacher education. The successful candidate should have an active research agenda that addresses social justice and equity and practices that result in innovations and continuous improvement in schools. Experience with sport based youth development or comprehensive school based youth development programs strongly encouraged. Finally, this position requires contributing to service to the department, college, university and broader Rowan professional community.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Terminal degree (Ed.D./Ph.D.) in Physical/Health Education or related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Minimum of 3 years of P-12 teaching experience in diverse settings.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in an environment devoted to collaboration, collegiality, professional development, diversity, scholarly inquiry, student learning, civic responsibility, and respect for all people.
  • Demonstrated commitment to implementation of a philosophical stance of social justice and sociocultural theoretical framework in scholarship, teaching, and service.
  • Entrepreneurial orientation to program innovation and curricular renewal
  • Starting Date: September 1, 2020
