SUMMARY:

The Director of Athletic Equipment Operations procures, maintains, and oversees athletic equipment for all Division I varsity sports at the University of Richmond. This position is the primary equipment contact for the men’s and women’s basketball programs and other selected sports. This position has oversight of the Equipment Room within the Department of Athletics.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversees and has overall accountability for the equipment purchasing process for all 17 varsity teams.

  • Serves as the primary equipment contact for a majority of the department’s athletic teams, including men’s and women’s basketball. Serves as the secondary equipment contact for football.
  • Coordinates all equipment orders with head and/or assistant coaches and ensures compliance with collegiate licensing, athletic department, and University policies.
  • Receives, distributes, and tracks all equipment purchases.
  • Accountable for managing equipment budgets with coordination from the coaching staffs.
  • Manages distribution, collection, and maintenance of all athletic equipment to student-athletes coaches, and staff members.

Formulates and implements policies & procedures for the athletic equipment room operation, including equipment issue/return process, uniform design, and equipment ordering to ensure consistency among all varsity teams and compliance with NCAA, conference, university, and departmental rules and regulations.

Manage business-related activities of the Athletic Equipment Room.

  • Processes all payments for athletic equipment and administrative apparel purchases by reconciling a purchasing card statement monthly, as well as processing invoices with appropriate index & account codes.
  • Works in conjunction with Athletic Business Office to procure items in accordance with University purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Provides monthly equipment budget status updates to each head coach, advises on fund availability, and monitors spending.
  • Oversees the athletic department pouring rights contract.

Maintains records of equipment issue and return for all athletic teams and ensures accuracy of that data.

  • Accountable for all records of equipment/apparel issuance and reconciles records upon return of equipment.
  • Ensures compliance with NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Appropriately inventories and stores all athletic equipment and inspects equipment for safety and quality for future use.

Supervises personnel which includes but not limited to directing working assignments, training, problem resolution, evaluating performance, making recommendations for personnel actions and motivating employees to achieve performance.

Manages award processes.

  • Maintains the database for all varsity letter award winners, orders awards, and ensures accuracy of the information.
  • Oversees conference championship gift ordering and distribution.

Manages all apparel contracts for the Department of Athletics.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have the ability to perform accurate, detail-oriented work.
  • Familiarity with Nike ordering platforms and processes is preferred.
  • AEMA certification (or the ability to become certified within a reasonably established timeframe) is required. Adherence to all applicable NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations is required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required
  • 3-5 years experience in the collegiate or professional level required
  • 2-3 years of pervious supervisory experience is preferred
  • Required: Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing

  • Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week
  • May require work on some weekends and nights

SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 5 (Hiring Range $37,944.00 to $50,275.00 annually)
