Job Description:


Budget Title: Senior Career Planning and Development Associate (SL-3)


Salary: $48,201 commensurate with education and experience


Job Responsibilities


Direct Student Services:


  • Meet with students via walk in and appointments for career consulting sessions on topics ranging from career assessment interpretation (MBTI, Strong, Focus2), career advising, job and internship search strategies, reviewing application materials, and interview preparation, as well as other career related topics
  • Create and present informational workshops to student groups, classes and university events, on career related topics. Some presentations will involve an evening and/or weekend time commitment

Programming


  • Conducting outreach to faculty, alumni, students, student organizations, employers, parents, and staff to enhance our wisdom and build partnerships across and beyond campus
  • Develop new programmatic initiatives to create signature programs in service to fostering a culture of career preparedness
  • Liaising and developing programs with/honoring referrals from their communities
  • Communicating on behalf of the center and seeking out collaboration
  • Coordinating and developing career resources and programs tailored to career development needs in collaboration with campus partners as part of the Exploring and Career Cluster Team and the Engineering and IT Career Cluster Team to serve Binghamton University students
  • Oversee the Student Affairs Internship Fund application process, committee, and administration
  • Provide support to Fleishman summer orientation programs, serving as a presenter for parents and incoming first-year students

Career Development Centralized Internship (CDCI) Support:


  • Collaborate with the Employer Services team to strategically identify and approach suitable agencies/employers to enhance breadth, depth, and diversity of internship opportunities
  • Educate organizations on how to construct meaningful internship experiences
  • Grow off campus CDCI sites and develop materials and programs to teach students how to successfully cultivate new internships through our CDCI program
  • Visit existing CDCI internship sites to ensure quality of the experience and to maintain positive relationships
  • Generate internship postings for HireBING by Handshake both in service to CDCI and in general
  • Support student registration, tracking of student progress, and evaluations in addition to responding to inquiries in the CDCI@binghamton.edu email
  • Present CDCI information sessions and orientations
  • Troubleshoot internship site issues that may arise in collaboration with the CDCI team
  • Oversee the Johnson City Mentor Program including program administration, collaboration with JC middle school administrators, program instructors and teaching assistants

Administration and General Office Support:


  • Work collaboratively as a team member with Center staff supporting all functional areas as needed, including training, orientation, staff meetings, strategic planning, and staff development programs and committees
  • Actively and professional participate in weekly staff and other center meetings


Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of professional experience
  • Motivated, detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task while meeting multiple concurrent deadlines
  • Familiarity with student development and counseling theories and approaches
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience working cooperatively and collaboratively with students, employers, staff and faculty with diverse backgrounds and perspectives to ensure positive relations and career success
  • Organizational and operational skills to plan and oversee programming and assessments
  • Professional and able to respond quickly to problems/issues in an efficient manner and handle confidential matters with tact and discretion
  • Technological expertise in business management tools including spreadsheets, LinkedIn, Word, presentation tools and databases
  • Evidence of commitment to college student success
  • Must share core values of campus collaboration, high ethical standards and dedication to what is best for students, employers and Binghamton University
  • Must be willing to travel and work some nights and weekends

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Masters Degree
  • 1-2 years of experience working in higher education, preferably in career services and/or experiential education
  • Ability to administer and interpret MBTI, Strong and Focus2 results as appropriate
  • Preferred knowledge of a career management and higher education systems, such as Handshake and Banner
  • Self-starting, creative professional with the ability to create and maintain collaborative relationships and adapt to change while handling multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques

History

Binghamton University opened its doors as Triple Cities College in 1946, to serve the needs of local veterans returning from service in World War II. Originally located in Endicott, N.Y., five miles west of the present campus, the fledgling school was a branch of Syracuse University.

Four years later, the college was incorporated into the State University of New York (SUNY) and renamed Harpur College in honor of Robert Harpur, a Colonial teacher, patriot and pioneer who helped settle the area west of Binghamton.

In 1961, the campus moved across the Susquehanna River to Vestal. Growing enrollment and a reputation for excellence soon led to the selection of Harpur College as one of four doctorate-granting University Centers in the SUNY system.

In 1965, the campus was formally designated the State University of New York at Binghamton, and in 1992, Binghamton University was adopted as our informal name.
