Bucknell University currently sends about 50% of a graduating class off campus and expects this number to grow. The Office of Global and Off-campus Education, which also caters for all domestic off campus programs, is responsible for advising these students on off campus studies options, including "Bucknell in", third-party providers, and exchange programs. Bucknell faculty, staff and students are also involved in a number of service learning, internship and other programs off-campus, both domestic and overseas. As an institution, Bucknell University is committed to enhancing the international character of its community, and strongly supports off-campus studies as one avenue through which students can become tolerant, reflective, global citizens.

The Global Education Advisor has primary responsibility for developing, coordinating and marketing programs/procedures and assisting faculty with short-term Off-campus/Study Abroad programs. This role will work with faculty for recruitment, enrollment and preparation of students for summer off-campus study, as well as assisting with summer program employments, program logistics and expense reconciliations after programs return to campus. The advisor will also be responsible for a portfolio of semester study abroad programs.

This is a full-time, 11 month, benefits eligible position reporting to Associate Director of Global Education.

Job Duties:
Short-term Study Abroad Programs
The Advisor will oversee short-term off-campus and study abroad programs. This will include, but is not limited to:
• Act as the main point of contact and advisor for students regarding program requirements, application guidelines and all procedures for completing applications.
• Provide guidance to faculty and academic and administrative departments in regards to short-term for-credit off-campus and abroad programs.
• Respond to inquiries during the various stages of off-campus program participation including pre-application, pre-departure, on-site, and post-experience.
• Effectively communicate with Bucknell students, staff and faculty to ensure completion of all program applications and required post-acceptance documentation, including required health and safety compliance. Assist students in post acceptance procedures to enhance a safe study abroad experience and smooth transfer of credit.
• Work with faculty for the recruitment, enrollment and preparation of students for short-term off campus study abroad programs.
• Coordinate travel logistics, procurement of tickets, provide assistance with travel documents, and travel insurance coordination for students and accompanying faculty/staff.
• Track expenditures and assist with the financial operations of the short-term programs.
• Promote intercultural learning and student development through the design and delivery of orientation programs, online learning content, presentations, and written educational materials.
• Ensure compliance with Bucknell travel policies and requirements and advise students, faculty and staff on these policies.
• Assist in the review and development of student onsite emergency plan for Bucknell-in summer off campus programs and provide recommendations as appropriate.
• Prepare and maintain a short-term study abroad guidebook for faculty and students.

Advising
The Advisor will have advising responsibilities for a portfolio of study abroad programs, including some faculty-led programs. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
• Meet with Bucknell students interested in study abroad and advise on program options.
• Work with students to identify the program most suitable to their academic needs, and provide guidance on application procedures.
• Work closely with faculty and administration in designated academic departments to ensure major-specific advising is provided.
• Work closely with program partners to identify targeted programs for students.
• Oversee the course credit transfer form process for designated advisees and post-acceptance material completion, providing workshops, as needed, and liaising with program partners and university offices and academic departments.
• Provide support students in their adjustment and preparation for returning home.
• Work with students to ensure academic records have been properly transferred and to involve them in activities.

Program and Event Co-ordination
• Provide assistance with programming designed to support the Office’s complete advising model.

Special Projects and Other Duties
• Perform other assigned special projects /other duties that may include, but are not limited to, planning for domestic and international visitors, generating statistics for campus and public constituents, and visiting partner and/or Bucknell program sites as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
• A Bachelor’s degree.
• At least 3 years’ experience working with diverse constituency groups including students, faculty, external providers, and community members.
• Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety issues in education abroad, advising, program and policy development.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong attention to detail, multitasking, time management, and organizational skills including ability to work independently and cooperatively as a team member.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.
• Ability to use good judgment, discretion, and sensitivity in dealing with confidential matters.
• Experience developing or managing programs or projects.
• Student advising or teaching experience.

Other requirements:
• Some evenings and weekends are required.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• At least 5 years’ of professional experience in higher education.
• Significant experience living, studying, or working abroad.
• Experience working with diverse groups and with college students.
• Demonstrated knowledge of industry standards for education abroad as developed by the FORUM, NAFSA, etc.
• Demonstrated skill in creating, writing, and implementing comprehensive policies, protocols, forms, instructions and handbooks with appropriate technical content, style and grammar, and guiding the approval of such documents through a complex organization.
• Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and application of student development theories, advising models and intercultural communication in the field of international education.
• Active involvement with a professional organization in the field of International Education
