Job Description:


Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Financial Aid, the Senior Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for the coordination of the Federal Work Study Program and the electronic file import and export processes related to ISIRs and Pell. Responsibilities also include Pell reconciliation, processing of student financial aid applications, R2T4 calculations, and advising students on application procedures and eligibility criteria. This individual will work closely with the other Senior Financial Aid Counselors to promote services available in the Financial Aid Office.


DUTIES:


  1. Responsible for the coordination of the Federal Work Study Program, including preparing student work authorizations, processing of all summer work study, monitoring of available funds, supervisor training, creation and maintenance of policy and procedure manuals, informational sessions for students, management of online position announcements, preparing data for the annual FISAP report, and coordination with the Business Office regarding payroll and eligibility documents.
  2. Participates in the administration of off-campus, community service Federal Work Study. Track funds spent on community service positions, develop job descriptions, review work agreements, and prepare data for the annual FISAP report. Works closely with the campus liaison for community service positions to ensure regulatory compliance.
  3. Responsible for electronic ISIR dataload transactions. Use EdConnect and FTP software to import and export files, perform batch posting of tracking documents, send/receive correction files and distribute to staff when appropriate, reviews system-generated ISIRs and resolves outstanding issues, retrieves files from "suspense" and match to existing records, and electronically request new transactions from the Central Processing System when necessary. Oversees coordination of two-year ISIR cycle and assists and trains Financial Aid Counselor on ISIR-related responsibilities.
  4. Transmits Pell origination and disbursement records, reconciles Pell on a monthly basis, reviews and resolves issues with Pell records as needed, coordinates with other institutions on multiple record reporting issues, and performs transfer monitoring activities.
  5. Assists with the general management of the College's financial aid programs, which will involve creating/updating policies and procedures, providing feedback on existing policies and procedures, assisting classified staff, and providing staff training on pertinent issues.
  6. Processes a caseload of financial aid applicants, including assessing the applicants eligibility for federal, state, and institutional financial aid, verifying applicants' reported data, making necessary corrections, determining the types/amounts of financial aid to offer based on packaging policies, and revising current financial aid awards for changes in enrollment, loss of eligibility, etc.
  7. Provides counseling to returning and prospective students on financial aid matters. Meets with students in the office, responds to office email inquiries, designs and delivers FAFSA workshops, provides assistance with counter and phones as circumstances arise, including evenings and weekends as needed, and promotes topics of interest around campus.
  8. Conducts on- and off- campus workshops and presentations which may involve evenings and weekends.
  9. Participates in cross-functional working groups and committees.
  10. Assists with withdrawal (R2T4) adjustments.
  11. Performs special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested.


Requirements:


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Education, Business Administration or closely related field with two (2) years of experience working in a financial aid office; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience; Strong commitment to a student-centered approach; Demonstrated knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to federal and state financial aid programs; Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends; Proven ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously with little supervision; Strong computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software; Ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bi-lingual (English/Spanish); Experience working with Ellucian/Banner software; Community college work experience.


COMPENSATION: MCCC-Grade 4; Range: $49,711-$52,000; plus a comprehensive State benefits package


HOURS: 37.5 hours per week
