The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for an Assistant Project Scientist in the Meyer Lab, to conduct research in the area cell-fate determination and the roles of chromosome structure and chromatin modification in gene regulation, at 100% time with an expected start date of November, 2019.

Responsibilities:

This position involves research requiring the application of professional judgment, interpretation of experimental results, innovation of new approaches, and preparation of research for presentation and publication. Experimental techniques will include CRISPR-mediated genome editing, genomics approaches including ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, Hi-C, computational analysis, classical genetics in the nematode C. elegans, protein purification, and single-molecule imaging using high-resolution microscopy.

Qualifications at time of application:
Enrollment in Ph.D. program or equivalent international degree.

Qualifications by start date:
Ph.D. or equivalent international degree.

Preferred Qualifications (By start date):
PhD or equivalent international degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology or genetics and 3 years of post-doctoral research.

The successful applicant will have extensive experience with bio-informatics. In-depth knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry, microscopy, and genetics. Ability to make sound decisions based on knowledge and experience. Ability to make research presentations and draft research manuscripts. Ability to develop innovative procedures.

Appointment:
This position reports to Dr. Barbara Meyer. The initial appointment will be at 100% time for one year with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Salary and Benefits: This position provides full benefits. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on UC Berkeley Assistant Project Scientist series salary scale
