About the College/Unit/Department

The Division of Development and Alumni Relations Office of Communications is responsible for planning, producing and executing all marketing and communications efforts that support the University of Georgia’s fundraising and alumni engagement efforts. It is charged with helping engage more than 318,000 alumni around the world, in addition to donors, students, parents, companies and foundations.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Digital Director, the Interactive Specialist will execute, maintain and enhance web initiatives for the Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR). This position will coordinate with designers, programmers, project coordinators and other communications professionals to create and manage DAR’s online presence by creating modern, visually compelling and easy to use web experiences that adhere to the refreshed visual identity of the University of Georgia. S/he will maintain CMS properties within the Division and work with other technical staff as necessary to setup and maintain development environments. S/he will be responsible for constantly optimizing the user experience for all DAR websites.

In addition, s/he will help support the division’s overall email plan and its implementation. Specifically, this position will help to assure emails adhere to user experience best practices and create landing pages for emails.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

-Advanced knowledge of HTML, CSS, and other front-end technologies
-Knowledge of CSS pre-processors
-Knowledge of popular Javascript frameworks (jQuery, React.js, etc.)
-Experience designing and building robust websites from the ground up, including: concepting, wireframing (information architecture), designing, building, monitoring, and optimizing.
-Extensive experience with Wordpress, and customizing Wordpress
-Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
-Excellent design skills
-Ability to develop visual assets for any digital platforms, including social media
-Experience setting up and managing local server environments
-Working knowledge of Google Analytics and other analytics platforms

Manage design and web development efforts on all DARCOMM web properties
•Independently design and build new websites and landing pages as needed
oEnsure web properties utilize current HTML standards
oEnsure web properties utilize current CSS standards
oEnsure web properties utilize current scripting standards
oEnsure websites are efficient and utilize optimized assets
oCollaborate to ensure server configuration is optimized for best performance
oMonitor health of search presence
•Responsible for maintenance of all DARCOMM CMS installations
oUpdate core CMS files as needed
oUpdate theme, theme customizations and plugins for all CMS installations
oMake regular backups of CMS installs (restore as needed)
oConduct regular audits to ensure links are accurate and up to date
oAdhere to security best practices when creating sites and managing content
•Configure and maintain local server environment for testing
oMaintain local MAMP installation for back up, testing and experimental work
•Identify emerging digital trends to enhance future web efforts
oRegularly assess web development landscape for new libraries, frameworks and plugins to enhance DAR web properties
•Ensure websites perform and display consistently across mobile, tablet and desktop devices
