Description:

The Department of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure research track. Expertise is required in the specific area of Synthetic Chemistry, Chemistry of Dyes and Fluorophores and Optical Molecular Imaging. Experience in Optical Surgical Navigation, or Fluorescence Guided Surgery with an interest in brain tumor imaging is highly desirable. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in chemistry, pharmacology, or pharmaceutical sciences. experience in other imaging modalities such as pet or surface-enhanced Raman would be an advantage. Experience in grant writing as well as in drug or nanoparticle formulation would be an asset.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include optical molecular imaging for surgical guidance in brain tumors, design and synthesis of NIR-I and NIR-II fluorescent molecules as targeted optical contrast agents, translational development of surgical contrast agents from cell and small animal imaging to large animals and humans. The successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision of graduate students and postdocs as well as grant writing and management. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with faculty in the Department of Neurological Surgery to develop and implement new optical contrast media for intraoperative brain tumor surgery.
