Description:

The University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine invites applications for a standing faculty position in Zoological Exotic Companion Animal Medicine Service (ZECAM). The position may be offered at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, in the Clinician Educator track. This role will also hold administrative duties as the Head of the Service in the Matthew J Ryan Veterinary Hospital.

Candidates must have a veterinary degree and board-certification in the American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM). The candidate will be responsible for didactic, laboratory and clinical teaching of veterinary medical students, participation in patient care, supervision of residents and continuing education for veterinarians and related stakeholders. A minimum of sixty percent (60%) of the allocated position’s time will be devoted to clinical service in ZECAM, with the remaining portion dedicated to scholarly activities such as research, as well as administrative and school responsibilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining the Penn Vet’s clinical programs in zoological and exotic companion animal medicine, education and service. The faculty member and Service Head will be expected to manage the zoological and exotic animal clinical caseload (primary care, referrals, and emergency) of the Small Animal Hospital. Supervision of house officers and veterinary students on the management of zoological and exotic companion animal patients, both on clinics and on-call will also be expected.

This is a unique opportunity to create, lead and integrate a program into the School’s mission of patient care, research and teaching alongside current Penn Vet faculty who support and champion zoological and exotic companion animal medicine.

The Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is a specialty-centered and well-equipped academic teaching facility. Its large and diverse faculty and staff, assembled from all over the world, attract one of the largest caseloads in the country. The Veterinary and Medical Schools are in close proximity (within walking distance) providing rich intellectual exchange. Qualifications:

Candidates must have a veterinary degree and board-certification in the American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM). A track record of collaborative research is desired.
