Christian Life Coordinator - Georgetown University Campus Ministry

Guided by Georgetown's Catholic and Jesuit tradition, with its abiding commitment to interreligious collaboration, Campus Ministry equips students to lead lives of deeper meaning, belonging and purpose.

The Christian Life Coordinator helps to promote Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox Christian Life on campus, and foster ecumenical engagement and understanding. S/he works with chaplains and other program staff to enrich the spiritual lives of Georgetown's students, faculty, and staff, through the coordination of religious services, pastoral support, service opportunities, and events. S/he oversees the promotion and execution of programs, events, and initiatives. The Coordinator serves to facilitate connections between Christian students and their communities, recruits and trains student leaders, and serves as a welcoming and affirming presence at services and events. S/he assists the Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox Chaplaincy Directors to bring the vision of each tradition to life, fostering collaboration between Christian ministries, student organizations, and affiliated ministries. Reporting to the Director of Music, Liturgy, and Catholic Life, the Christian Life Coordinator has duties that include but are not limited to:

Support of Catholic, Protestant, and Christian Orthodox Life Campus Life
  • Assists Catholic chaplaincy director and other chaplains to develop programs and initiatives.
  • Coordinates all planning and logistics for programs and events, including invitations, correspondence, registration, contracts, staff support, supplies, and technology.
  • Collaborates with Office Manager and Hospitality Coordinator on major programs.
  • Collaborates with Coordinator of Music and Liturgy on weekly and special religious services, serving as a consistent presence and overseeing student leadership and hospitality.
  • Develops, executes and evaluates publicity strategy for Catholic ministry, including services and events; manages weekly newsletters and social media presence, in consultation with Communications and Outreach Coordinator; and personally encourages participation.
  • Recruits volunteer student leadership, and then trains and supervises, in collaboration with Coordinator of Music and Liturgy and Coordinator for Student Engagement.
  • Engages with individual students, building relationships, serving as a personal resource, and connecting them to department and university resources as needed.
  • Encourages development and growth of new and existing student organizations, and supports and cultivates connections with other student groups.
  • In coordination and promotion of select retreats, assists as directed by the Chaplaincy Director.
  • Coordinates evaluation and assessment process for services, programs, and events, including participant feedback.
  • Maintains SalesForce CRM database of constituencies.
  • Oversees student workers and interns, including coordination of hiring and evaluation.

Ecumenical Engagement on Campus
  • Coordinates and supports regular meetings of Catholic, Protestant, and Christian Orthodox chaplains and staff to coordinate activities and to develop joint initiatives; and ensures cross-promotion of events as appropriate.
  • Supports oversight of Affiliated Ministries, maintaining strong communication about activities, monitoring compliance with department and university policy, and ensuring inclusion in department activities where appropriate; and promotes and supports ecumenical engagement of Affiliates.
  • In collaboration with the Office of Mission and Ministry and in consultation with Catholic, Protestant and Christian Orthodox chaplains, helps to coordinate Lent and Advent devotional projects; and works with Communications and Outreach coordinator and student workers on print and email production.
  • Supports department's engagement in ecumenical or ecumenically-relevant programs and initiatives elsewhere in the University, including those hosted by the Office of the President, the Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life, and the Berkeley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs.
  • Supports new ecumenical programs and initiatives in consultation with chaplains, and oversee execution.

Departmental Support
  • Contributes to the larger work of Campus Ministry and provides collaborative support to colleagues.
  • Participates in department meetings and events.
  • Supports other department events and services as needed.

  • Bachelor's degree with coursework in theology or religious studies - Master's preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant administrative and programmatic experience in a ministry environment or religious organization
  • Knowledge of the breadth of Christian perspective is preferred along with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to contribute to a collaborative environment, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues of other faith traditions, to take initiative leading collaborative projects, and to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Technical skills required include strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and basic Excel; skill in web content and social media management.
