The University of Miami’s Uhealth system, is currently seeking a Senior Accountant / Financial Analyst in the Office of Medical Finance, a central accounting and reporting office responsible for combining and consolidating all activities of the Medical Center. This position reports to the Director of Finance and is responsible for analyzing financial activities, preparing financial reports, audit requests, and reports on key financial indicators for strategic decision making.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist in preparing and evaluating monthly financial statements, including reconciliation of general ledger accounts, and preparation of entries to accounts.
  • Review of material account variances.
  • Prepare reports for management and other departments, utilizing report writing capabilities.
  • Assist with various annual audits, filings, and tax returns and interacts with external auditors in completing audits, including annual account reconciliations and annual financial statement preparation.
  • Perform other accounting, financial, or special projects or analysis as required by the Director of Finance.
  • Assist in preparation of reports and financial statements for Board Meetings.
  • Analyze and monitors financial data, trends, and indicators.
  • Develop and maintain a good knowledge of processes and procedures with regards to the accounting system.
  • Apply basic accounting knowledge and techniques to all areas of work, including variance analysis.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining advanced Excel spreadsheets for a variety of applications.
  • Oversees, mentors, and assists lower-level accountants.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Masters degree preferred.

Certification and Licensing:

CPA preferred

Experience:

Minimum 4 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.
  • Knowledge of budget control methods, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare financial and accounting records.
  • Ability to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data.
  • Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate accounting data and results concisely.
  • Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget.
